As the original deadline of Sept. 17, 2017 loomed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it would delay Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) inspections for hazard analysis and risk-based preventive controls requirements for large animal food facilities until the fall of 2018. Even with the extension, many companies are still struggling to prepare.

Now is a great time to take a moment to see if your facilities are ready for an inspection.

The Food Industry Council developed a checklist of what you need to do when the FDA conducts an inspection of your facility.

Included on that extensive list is:

  • Complete Preventive Control Qualified Individual Training
  • Finalize Written Food Safety Systems
  • Ensure Ease of Records Access
  • Document Corrective Actions Properly
  • Upgrade Sanitation Flashlights
  • Review Allergen Controls
  • Conduct Environmental Monitoring
  • Develop a Microbiological Sample Retain Policy
  • Develop a Companion Sample Policy

The final piece of Food Industry Council advice is to conduct a mock FDA inspection. In other words, see your facilities through the eyes of an inspector.

If you’re still nervous about an inspection, Repete can help. Let’s talk.
